Welcome Onboard!

I am excited to introduce you all to Lesley, she has joined me as a Business Support Manager, however I feel her work experiences and real-life exposure to operational risks, specifically regarding the vulnerable in our society will put her in good company when we discuss information security, cyber security and privacy risks for any organisation.

Lesley actually joined me in February 2025, but we’ve been full steam ahead in building our own inhouse capabilities, we haven’t really popped up for air (sorry Les!).

Why I moved from Social Work to Information Security and Business Resilience.

“Before joining Elev8 Resilience, I spent 12 years in the social work sector. At first glance, moving into the realm of information security and business resilience might seem like a significant leap. However, many of the skills I refined in social work are incredibly relevant and valuable in my new role.

In social work, my daily responsibilities included skills such as crisis management, conflict resolution, risk assessment, policy development, and training and education. These tasks have direct parallels in the world of information security. Communication skills, including active listening, negotiating, and conveying information clearly, are vital in this field particularly when explaining technical issues to non-technical stakeholders and collaborating with team members. Moreover, social workers are adept at problem-solving, dealing with complex issues, and developing effective solutions. This adaptability, developed through constantly changing circumstances in social work, is equally important in the ever-evolving field of cyber security.

But the main reason I explored moving into this field was ethical practice. A cornerstone of social work, ethical practice ensures the ethical handling of data and adherence to legal standards in information security. When social work agencies became the target of data breaches, I recognised the impact it would have on the vulnerable people who used those agencies, and I knew I needed to be proactive in making their information more secure.

In summary, my background in social work has provided me with a robust set of skills that are highly applicable to information security and business resilience. This transition has allowed me to leverage my experience in new and exciting ways, contributing to safer and more resilient organisations.”

Excited to have you onboard Lesley and excited to see you evolve into the new world of Information Security and Business Resilience!
